Solitaire Bliss surveyed Americans about the bad travel behaviors they exhibit — and have witnessed others exhibit — while at an airport or on a plane. Americans were asked a variety of questions in every state to determine where residents are most and least guilty of committing naughty travel habits.

Key Findings

  • California is the #6 state with the naughtiest travelers.

  • Spirit Airlines is the #1 airline California residents associate with naughty behavior.

  • 66% of residents have put bag(s) on a seat in the terminal to prevent someone sitting there.

  • 43% have reclined their seat without asking.

  • 38% have left garbage in the seat back pocket.

  • 30% have passed gas in the plane cabin.

  • Residents in Iowa, Illinois, and Virginia are the most likely to commit naughty travel behaviors.

  • Residents in Arkansas, Alabama, and Florida are the least likely to commit naughty travel behaviors.

  • 1 in 8 Americans have witnessed a physical confrontation in an airport or on a plane.

  • Gen Zers are the most likely generation to commit "naughty" travel behaviors.

Topping the list as the most common behaviors witnessed include reclining seats without asking, loud phone use, and putting bags on seats in the terminal.
