Wella Launches Care and Styling

Matrix Uses its Imagination

To kick off the event, the six winners of Matrix’s Spread the Love competition were greeted by their mentors, Matrix Artistic Designers Nicholas French, Brian and Sandra Smith, Patrick McIvor, Daniel Roldan, Ammon Carver, Chrystofer Benson and Nick Stenson. Before their departure on their six-month tour across the nation, they received computers, cameras and phones to document their journey. They also received a blogging tutorial from MODERN’s Executive Editor of Social Media and Video Alison Shipley. Shipley hosted blogger training workshops for the 100-plus Spread the Love salon owners and stylists, along with the winners.

Redken Symposium

Ones to Watch: Nicky Cahoon

Last spring/summer, Nicky Cahoon entered TIGI’s Masculine Architecture contest, where she was challenged to create a make-up look on a man—that was not traditional female make-up— and it had to tell a story. This got her thinking about the uses of war paint in history and how she could replicate the strong tribal feel on a man, where the make-up wouldn’t take over. Her creation, which features powdery white make-up on a model’s heavily oiled dark skin, made her the winner of the contest—and a TIGI stylist who’s “one to watch.”
