Rodney Cutler Does Fashion Week

Rodney Cutler and I just met over a cafe latte to discuss his favorite looks from fashion week. Rodney did more than 30 shows for Redken and while he has MANY favorite looks, I forced him to narrow it down to his five faves...many of which I watched in awe from my seat:

Fighting a Good Fight

Next month is October--Breast Cancer Awareness month. We see the pink ribbons everywhere—and an amazing array of pink products (I’m sure there is a pink chain saw out there someplace). As wonderful and awe-inspiring as this marvelous national effort is, there are other diseases that also need our attention.

Pursuing a Passion

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve wanted to go to beauty school. My first experience cutting hair, aside from my Barbies’ heads, was on my little sister Megan. Her hair was getting a little long, I thought she could use a bang trim. The problem was, I was seven years old, and she was four. I used kitchen shears, and then proceeded to let her cut my hair afterward.

A Magical Weekend

I expected something great...but not THIS great. It was a special and wonderful Oribe weekend. More than 300 salon owners and artistic directors descending on Chelsea Piers in NYC to meet and work with Oribe himself. This hands on ORIBE HAIR CARE shoot/show/educational event defies description. Since pictures (and videos) speak thousands of words, click here for the 8 minute journey (but plan on going to the next one in the Spring)....

Fashion Week Eyebrows

Elke Von Freudenberg doesn’t pluck and tell. I know this because yesterday I met with this eyebrow specialist who has shaped, waxed and tweezed some pretty high profile Hollywood types over the years. Try as I might to get her to dish up some names, she wouldn’t play. Elke is a pretty smart cookie for reasons other than not giving up her stars.

Solano Introduces New Tools

Solano is introducing the incredibly powerful 3700Moda dryer and productive SleekHeat 450 iron next month. They decided to throw a press event at the Arrojo Studio in NYC to show editors how to best use the new tools. Believe me...most of us NEED THIS LESSON!!!!! (I hope all you professionals know your power through your incredible knowledge and ability! Most of us ...me especially... are incredibly lame in the DIY department.)

Don't Gamble on the Recession

I recently had the chance to lunch with KPSS President and CEO Mario Argenti, who oversees North American operations for Goldwell and KMS. Argenti spoke enthusiastically about how their brands, educators and networks of salons are helping stack the deck to help stylists and colorists succeed in spite of the economy.

Cute Cuts and Playful Patterns

I’m no colorist, but I simply MUST own one of Jessie Steele Salon’s Designer Aprons. I've been pretty much addicted to the company's adorable baking and hostess aprons for a couple of years—but only recently did they launch a line for the salon professional.
