Since 2009, Sebastian Professional has been conducting the “What’s Next Awards” competition to give stylists in North America a creative outlet that delivers national coverage and peer attention. The competition was so successful that in 2011 it became the global “What’s Next Challenge,” inviting stylists and beauty junkies—non-stylist artists who are hair obsessed— from all over the world to participate.
In the chocolate capital of the U.S.—Hershey, Pennsylvania—students representing 109 of the Empire Beauty Schools in 22 states came together for the first day of the 2012 Future Professionals Expo yesterday. The day was full of student competitions, education and fun.
To get a better understanding of Wella Professionals' trends, and to help you learn how to compete, I attended The Trend Vision Experience, a seminar held at P&G Salon Professional’s The Studio in Woodland Hills, California, where I got up close and personal with Blaze, Grace, Celeste and Roxy. The North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) has added a new category for 2012: The NAHA Newcomer Stylist of the Year award. To qualify to enter, the entrant must be a licensed cosmetologist with less than three years of professional experience. The new category seeks to recognize a rising talent in the professional hairstyling industry and is meant to bridge the gap between Student Hairstylist of the Year and Hairstylist of the Year. Today was the final judging day of Matrix Spread the Love competition--and I am so honored, so full of gratitude and joy, that I was selected to be the only guest judge among all the Matrix top big wigs to get the chance to interview the 22 top finalists in the Spread the Love competition.
Pureology is presenting the Global Green USA’s Green School Makeover Competition. From March 1–September 30, 2011, a parent, teacher, student or individual, can nominate any K–12 public, private or charter school they think deserves a Green School Makeover. One school will win a “green makeover” and four finalist schools will win $2,500 for their sustainable upgrades.

P&G Salon Professional has announced their first student stylist competition, which will be held at America's Beauty Show on March 14th, 2011, at McCormick Place in downtown Chicago. Students will be able to pick from one of three categories: Wella Professionals, Clairol Professional and Sebastian Professional.
