When I wrote the subject line of this blog about Matrix's 201 Imagination, "And it gets better and better," I meant it...This show is unlike any other manufacturer show, it's NOT AT ALL about the products, it's NOT AT ALL about the numbers, it's ALL about the inspiration and education behind the hairdressers involved and the extreme amount of dedication and passion the Matrix Senior Team has for the industry.
Today is my second day in Palm Springs, California, where I am participating in my VERY FIRST Matrix Imagination event! Not only am I super excited about getting out of snowy Chicago, but I am ecstatic to be hanging out with some of the coolest peeps in the industry. As you may remember from my previous blogs back in December, I was asked to be a guest judge for Matrix’s Spread the Love competition—in which the Matrix team and I interviewed and selected the 6 winners from the 22 finalists to participate in a 6-month, all expenses paid tour around the country!
Today was the final judging day of Matrix Spread the Love competition--and I am so honored, so full of gratitude and joy, that I was selected to be the only guest judge among all the Matrix top big wigs to get the chance to interview the 22 top finalists in the Spread the Love competition.
The Matrix Mannequin Mania competition has selected its second round of semi-finalists in each of four categories: hair stylist, salon team, beauty school student and Matrix friends and family. Here, a few semi finalists share their design inspiration.
Matrix held a “pop up studio” offering four weeks of advanced education to all licensed hairdressers in the Omaha, NE. As the grand finale, groups of hair stylists had to create styles for mannequins and compete to see whose was the best.
Lately, there's been a lot of talk about giving back. Whether you're
giving back to the community, giving back to your peers, or giving back
to the industry—whatever you can do to make a difference in the lives
of others is so important.
Good news! The economy is recovering, though your clients may still be looking for help in extending the time between their color appointments.

Wow, what a truly amazing experience I had at The Beauty Schools of America in Miami Beach, FL, visiting Matrix's Student Mannequin Mania winner Terell Gardner at his academy's member school. Not only is this facility incredibly beautiful, it's packed with energetic, enthusiastic and highly motivated students who couldn't wait for Terrell to claim his prize. Not only did he win $25,000 (OMG!!!), but he also won the chance to spend a full day with industry star Tabatha Coffey! How did he choose to spend his time? By sharing her with his school!
Matrix has just announced an opportunity for students/recent grads to travel throughout the U.S. on a 6-month, all expense paid inspirational journey.
