Kimemily Pham (@kimwasabi) of Excellent Hair Salon & Spa Inc. (@excellenthairsalon) caught our eye with this fantastic box color save. "I have not seen this client for over a year," she says. "She has been coloring her hair at home. She came in to see me and wanted a change...but did not want to cut her hair short, and did not want to go too light in color." Pham jumped in to save the day, transforming her uneven almost black, banded hair into a beautiful chocolate and coffee Sombre. Here she shares the how to:
Background of her hair: Half inch of regrowth of a natural level 2 with 20% grey, with 2 inches of previous hot roots. Midshaft was colored black, and ends were uneven shades of black and brown.
Formula 1: Matrix Color Insider. 3N (1oz) + 4M (2oz) + 20vl developer (3oz)
Formula 2a: Matrix Light Master lightener 30vl + Olaplex
Formula 2b: Matrix Light Master lightener 40vl + Olaplex
Formula 3: Redken Shades EQ 5N (1oz) + 5NB (1oz) + processing solution (2oz)
Formula 4: Redken Shades EQ 6T (1oz) + 7NB (1oz ) + processing solution (2oz)
Formula 5: Redken shades EQ : 9NB (2oz) + clear (1oz ) + processing solution (3oz) + 1/8 oz Olaplex.
Step 1: Divide the hair in to 4 sections. Apply Formula 1 to new growth and stretch past previous hot roots.
Step 2: While processing, apply next formulas:
Balayage the front 2 sections with Formula 2a.
Balayage the back 2 sections with Formula 2b.
Step 3: Process at room temperature for 30 minutes. Shampoo and towel dry.
Step 4: Apply Formula 3 to the root and blend out 2 inches.
Step 5: Apply Formula 4 to midshaft leaving out 3 inches at the ends. Melt Formula 3 and 4 together.
Step 6: Process at room temperature for 15 minutes.
Step 7: Apply Formula 5 to the ends for 5 minutes, then smudge the midshaft and ends together.
Step 8: Process for an additional 5 minutes. Rinse and shampoo with the new Matrix Biolage cleansing conditioner. Treat with Olaplex and Moroccanoil under dryer for 10 minutes. Rinse, ,cut, and style.
