Kelsea Ballerini took our breath away during Sunday night's 2023 CMT Music Awards, which she co-hosted along with Kane Brown, in addition to performing. On par with Ballerini's beautiful voice was her beatiful hair, done by celebrity stylist Peter Lux (@peterluxhair) using Great Lengths extensions and OGX products.
Lux shared with us his how-to for achieving Ballerini's look, so if you want to recreate it on your clients, here are his secrets.
“The inspiration for the look was 90s supermodel with an easy elegance and lots of movement. I wanted the hair to look and feel super healthy with a high shine.”
Check out Lux's step-by-step below:
- After washing the hair with OGX Extra Strength Biotin & Collagen Shampoo & Conditioner, I applied OGX Protecting + Silk Blowout Quick Drying Thermal Spray from root to tip. It was the perfect combo for a voluminous blowout with added shine. Then, I applied a few drops of OGX 5- in-1 Keratin Smoothing Oil Miracle Gloss Spray through the ends for added heat protection and hydration. I blow-dried hair over a natural bristle round brush to achieve a super silky, glossy finish.
- Once hair was dry, I used the Great Lengths Tape-In Extensions in a variety of shades to achieve a perfect result of full dimension. Since her hair is slightly darker at the back of the head, I started with two rows of shades Rooted 68- 23, then two rows of 10 Champagne Twist, one row with 27 Beach Kissed and, lastly, one row of 61 Golden Blend, which sit just below the parting and around the front hairline.
- Once her hair was smoothed out, I used a razor to feather her Great Lengths Extensions from short to long, using the length of the hair that’s along the parting as a guide for a seamless blend.
- To style her hair, I used a large curling iron to achieve bouncy voluminous waves with a lot of movement. Once the hair was curled, I tucked it neatly behind her ears and finished off with the OGX Renewing + Argan Oil of Morocco Weightless Healing Dry Oil Spray through the ends and mid-lengths for maximum red carpet shine.
