How-to Make Curls That Last

My client has straight hair but wants a curly look, how do I do that? My client wants a naturally curly look without getting a perm, how do I do that? We’ve got the answers here.

Whether you’re going from straight to curly with perm rods, flexi rods, or shingling, here are some great tips to keep in mind when achieving this style.

1.) Shampoo and Condition. Thoroughly clarify, cleanse, and condition the hair using your favorite Ashtae Shampoo & Conditioner (for example: Ashtae Clarifying Shampoo and Heavenly Silk & Shine Conditioner). Be sure to detangle while the conditioner is still in the hair and rinse with cool water. Apply the Ashtae Moisture Plus (leave-in conditioner) to add moisture and hydrate the hair.

2.) Dilute The Ashtae Sculpturing Lotion. It comes fully concentrated so be sure to use a spray bottle and add 1 part Sculpturing Lotion and 3-6 parts water. For a firmer hold, use less water. The darker the solution, the firmer the set.

3.) Spray. Part the hair into thin sections. Working one section at a time, mist the hair with the Sculpturing Lotion spray or use the Ashtae Heavenly Foam Lotion. For the best results, be sure to only spray the section you're working with. Both Ashtae products dry very quickly.

4. ) Roll. Part into 0.5 inch to 1-inch sections and place ends on the super roller or perm rod. For unrully hair ends, use Heavenly Foam to help attach to the roller. Roll 1 and 1/2 times to ensure hair ends are locked onto roller. Roll upwards and diagonal.

5.) And Set. If you roll the first section going to the left, row the section above it to the right. Use this back and forth pattern until you complete all sections. This creates balance in the style.

6.) Separate Curls to Create Body. Separate each curl 4 to 6 times using a small amount of the Ashtae Curl Wax on your fingertips. This seals the curls, controls unruly frizziness, and the water-repellant wax makes the style last longer.

Client At-Home Maintenance

As the style ages, create more body by running your fingers through the curls from root to mid-shaft. This will create volume and extend the lifetime of the style. Be sure to use the Ashtae Sili Gloss in order to maintain that fresh salon look. The Ashtae Sili Gloss can be used daily as an added sheen. Since it contains no oil, it won't create buildup and is great for all textures of hair.
