Intercoiffure America Canada is one of forty sections (countries) within a global organization, Intercoiffure Mondial. As hairdressers from across the world, ICA are united together by this organization and diversity is at our core.
Recently, Sonya Dove, one of the most-awarded hairdressers in professional beauty, was named as Artistic Director for Intercoiffure America Canada. As Wella Professional's Global Creative Ambassador for over 35 years, Dove has influenced the careers of thousands of salon professionals, sharing her acquired knowledge of of color and style via a warm and generous teaching style.
At the end of March, ICA members will attend the Spring Gathering in Las Vegas and experience the creativity of their new artistic director.
“I’ve always admired Sonya’s work on ICA’s Color Council,” says Scott Buchanan, ICA President. “She’s a creative, innovative, wonderful educator who is of service to her audience. It will be interesting to see where she envisions the industry going from a service perspective.”
Dove’s inspiration for hair color, cutting and style has always come from nature and her travels around the world.
“The colors and shapes nature provides are so inspiring for my hair creations, which are mixed with whatever is current and trending at that very moment, including the current Pantone color of the year,” she says.
The ICA stage is a perfect fit for Dove, who has a passion for people.
“I have always been passionate about inspiring others to live their best lives both personally and professionally,” she says.

As the celebrity colorist to Wella Professionals’ roster of Brand Ambassadors including Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones & X-Men) from 2016-2018, Sonya has found herself in the consumer eye, advocating for the craft and professionalism that exists within her stylist community to the world of social media influencers and bloggers.
Representing Wella Professionals on the Ulta Beauty Pro Team, Sonya collaborates with educators from a range of professional haircare brands creating editorial/competition shoots, as well as education and trend development designed to inspire and educate Ulta Beauty stylists across the country. Her heart has always belonged behind the chair and she continues to offer her client’s salon services as an “Elite Designer” at “The Salon at Ulta Beauty” in Santa Monica, California.
Sonya sources her creativity from nature and people and she actively surrounds herself with creatives of all industries and uses her experiences in life and the industry as inspiration when mentoring or judging hair competitions, backstage at New York Fashion Week, producing photo shoots, film wig work – most visible being “Hunger Games: Catching fire” (2013), and on stage at industry shows & events. Her ability to balance everything with grace has her as a returning member of the “Leading Ladies” panel at trade events, a girl-powered lineup that addresses issues in the beauty industry and how to juggle everyday life in order to live the life you want.
