Pantone has revealed its pick for the 2026 Color of the Year: 11-4201 Cloud Dancer, "a billowy white imbued with a feeling of serenity" that "serves as a symbol of calming influence in a frenetic society rediscovering the value of measured consideration and quiet reflection."

“At this time of transformation, when we are reimagining our future and our place in the world, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer is a discrete white hue offering a promise of clarity,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “The cacophony that surrounds us has become overwhelming, making it harder to hear the voices of our inner selves. A conscious statement of simplification, Cloud Dancer enhances our focus, providing release from the distraction of external influences.”
“We are living in a transitional time where people are seeking truth, possibility, and a new way of living," added Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. “PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer is an airy white hue that exemplifies our search for balance between our digital future and our primal need for human connection—a liminal space that is a launchpad for creative expression—as individuals and communities are experimenting beyond traditional boundaries, opening the door to increased imagination and innovation."

Cloud Dancer has garnered a wide mix of reactions throughout the visual industries that are usually invested in the Pantone Color of the Year, such as art, interior design and fashion. Partially due to the current U.S. and global political climate, many are calling the choice everything from 'boring' to 'tone deaf.' Pantone maintains that its intention with Cloud Dancer is to evoke a sense of calm in a chaotic world.
Similarly, the beauty industry seems unsure of what to make of this selection so far. However, we've noticed two groups showing some excitement over Cloud Dancer.
Nail brands, technicians and enthusiasts are loving the choice - after all, a crisp, white polish looks good with every skin tone. It's also the perfect time to incorporate it into snowy winter and holiday nail designs. Recently, we've seen this serene white show up in nail trends like the ultra-feminine coquette look that emerged just a couple of years ago. We anticipate the color being extra popular this spring as we move into bridal season (wedding dress designers are also rejoicing!).
We've also seen enthusiasm from professional hairstylists and colorists within the blonding community. Plenty of blonde specialists choose to further niche down into delivering the lightest, iciest blondes possible for their clients, and their favorite brands are joining in on the celebration.
