’Twas the day after the Super Bowl, and all we can seem to talk about is Bruno Mars’ hair because — let’s be honest — the game was a little lackluster.
The joke that is revolving around Bruno’s hair is that he needs the added height because he’s only 5’5” tall. We think the man just knows a classic look when he sees one.
Check out our how-to and five other men whom we’re sure Bruno draws inspiration from with his vertical style:
1. Elvis Presley: The Man Who Started It All
Elvis is The King of more than just rock ’n’ roll. TIME listed Presley’s pompadour in its “10 Most Iconic Hairstyles” in 2012, and we can’t argue with that.
2. James Dean: The Bad Boy
Teenage angst never looked so good as the Rebel Without a Cause star’s pompadour. We imagine Bruno channeling this particular star’s pompadour when he performs gritty hits like “Gorilla.”
3. David Beckham: The Family Man
Dads can rock the pomp, too! The father of four is still cool enough for a plethora of tattoos and for the on-trend pompadour, which should be inspiration for dads everywhere.
4. Adam Lambert: The Runner-Up
Sure, Lambert was an American Idol runner-up, but he skyrocketed to pop fame nonetheless. His theatrical hair scoffs at all of you who didn’t vote for him.
5. Miguel: The Soul Singer
Miguel has cited Stevie Wonder and James Brown as inspiration, and soulful artists need hair that can hold up to their alternately wild and deep lyrics and performances. Miguel’s style is one that has been making women weak in the knees for decades.
