Just before having her makeup done for the awards show, Kate Hudson made a spur-of-the-moment decision—to cut off 7 inches of hair.

Celebrity master-stylist David Babaii drew on '70s and '80s film inspiration to give her a "dirty, boho-chic A-line bob. He first cut a clean line, then created texture and movement by chopping into the back and leaving the front longer. Babaii typically does not use many products because he doesn't like to weigh hair down, but he did apply Pai-Shau Biphasic Infusion to her damp hair to "literally bring the hair back to virgin quality."

He also used Pai-Shau Royal Abundance Mousse and rough dried the hair with a blowdryer. He used a flatiron to twist random sections, avoiding a curling iron so he could achieve a more chaotic effect.

"Kate is a very free spirit, and with that million-dollar smile you don't want to constrict her with a 'do." Babaii told the Hollywood Reporter. "With her, it's about keeping it boho chic."

GET THE LOOK:

1. Start with damp hair and apply Pai-Shau Biphasic Infusion to quickly prime, de-frizz and nourish the hair without any residue or added weight.

2. Then apply the lightweight Pai-Shau Royal Abundance Mousse for soft body and structure. Blowdry (Babaii used a GHD Air Hairdryer) using a paddle brush to build in texture and movement.

3. Next, use a flat iron (Babaii used GHD’s new Platinum White Styler Flat Iron) and create a wavy texture by curving the flat-ironed hair with your hands.

4. Finish the look with a touch of Pai-Shau Sublime Hold Hairspray to create a flexible hold without buildup.
