THE EVENT:
New York Fashion Week, featuring the fall/winter 2010 collections.
MODERN SALON got a backstage pass at tons of shows to capture hairstylists as they created magic before the models hit the runway.
WHERE AND WHEN: Held in February in the Mercedes Benz tents at Bryant Park and at other venues throughout New York City.
THE DETAILS: Hair stylists converged in New York City to create amazing finishes for superstar fashion designers. Orlando Pita, Danilo, Ted Gibson, Recine, Rodney Cutler, Anotinette Beenders, Odile, Thomas Dunkin, Eugene Souleiman, Sean James, Guido, Didier Malige, Teddy Charles and more arrived to New York armed with talented teams, products, tools and additional hair items to pump, build, smooth, collect and re-direct hair.
To get this look at the J. Mendel show, Ted Gibson separated the hair in small sections and used a flatiron to get it pin straight. He then parted the hair either straight down the middle, or off to the side and took the two front pieces and secured with an elastic underneath the rest of the hair in the back, creating almost a headband to keep the hair off the face.

like "the equestrienne after the ride."

Guido, Redken Creative Consultant, showcased clean lines and silhouettes for The Calvin Klein Fall/Winter 2010
collection. The sharp, strong ponytail he created complemented the clothing with its classic yet modern look.

Thomas Dunkin and the Sebastian hair team were on hand backstage at William Rast creating edgy, erratic styles that looked as though the models had just hopped off the back of a motorcycle, complementing the designer's
aesthetic for fall. Of the looks Thomas says, "we went with a beachy, tousled look with lots of windblown volume and texture to fit the free-spirited nature of the collection."
At Yigal Azrouel, Teddy Charles for Catwalk by TIGI designed a modern take on sexy, natural
hair. Teddy created an understated and natural-looking ponytail loop-bun with a silky,
textured finish.

Odile Gilbert for Phyto went vertical at Catherine Malandrino. The urban Mongolian and Tibetan fashions
inspired Odile to create rough-textured ponytails on top of the head. "I wanted the hair to look like a dry little tree," she said. "It should be fresh but have the touch of a barbarian girl."
