amika is supporting HairToStay, a nonprofit organization that helps cancer patients get access to scalp-cooling therapy, with the launch of a limited-edition version of its Soulfood Nourishing Mask.

In anticipation of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, amika has introduced a limited-edition version of itsSoulfood Nourishing Mask to support HairToStay, a nonprofit organization that works to increase awareness and provide financial support for cancer patients to receive scalp-cooling technology during chemotherapy treatment to prevent hair loss. The limited-edition amika x HairToStay Soulfood Nourishing Mask will support HairToStay with four dollars from every mask going towards their mission.
amika's Soulfood Nourishing Mask restores hair’s natural vibrancy and health from the inside out. This ultra-rich mask is packed with vitamins and nutrients to condition the hair—making it soft, silky, and smoother than ever. Used as a weekly treatment or as a daily deep conditioner, this sea buckthorn-infused formula is rich and creamy but will never weigh hair down. Formulated with jojoba seed oil, powerful antioxidants, and vitamins, Soulfood Nourishing Mask has been clinically tested to leave hair 7x more moisturized and 87% more repaired after one use. Perfect for all hair types, especially those in need of deep hydration.

In 2018, amika launched a partnership with HairToStay with an ongoing initiative of donating one percent of all e-commerce sales from loveamika.com to HairToStay, while also providing the option for their customers to add an additional donation at checkout. Throughout the year, they also support their network of salons in their efforts to fundraise for HairToStay through salon-a-thons and other events.
Founded in 2016, HairToStay began with a mission of building a nationwide subsidy program for scalp cooling technology, supported by partnerships with both philanthropic and commercial organizations. Recently granted FDA Clearance, scalp cooling is not covered by most insurance providers and thus inaccessible for many undergoing treatment. The organization works to broaden the understanding and accessibility of scalp-cooling treatments in the US.
By using a scalp cooling system during chemotherapy treatments, hair loss can be prevented by impacting two cellular processes. Scalp cooling works by constricting the blood vessels in the hair follicles, thereby exposing them to less of the chemotherapy medication that often results in total hair loss. Additionally, the chemotherapy’s effects on the hair follicle are reduced due to the slowing of the cellular metabolism. By inhibiting hair loss, scalp cooling technology works to maintain a sense of normalcy and privacy in a patient’s life and can thwart the emotional damage that hair loss can often cause.
