Geneva Cowen, artistic director for Sam Villa, has always been fascinated by barbering, but over the years she found herself working primarily in color, and women’s design and finishing.
“With barbering in the forefront again, I decided to take the challenge to revisit the craft and become grounded once again,” Cowen says. And she went all in: booking a men’s photoshoot as a way to tackle grooming head-on.
“My business partner, who happens to specialize in barbering, was kind enough to hang with me during the shoot in case I needed coaching—and thank goodness he did, because ‘fade boot camp’ was in order!”
After some guidance, Cowen found her rhythm and dexterity once again.
“Practice is my mantra and my fades are becoming stronger with each attempt,” Cowen says.
