Just like hair on top of the head complements face shape, so does beard hair. Here, Andres ‘Dre’ Reyes shape shifts.

SQUARE: Avoid beards with sharp corners, shape it with curves.

Just like hair on top of the head compliments face shape, so does beard hair. The length and shape can highlight or downplay facial features.
“Knowing what beard style compliments your client face shape will help you recommend a sculpt that will have him looking and feeling his best,” says Andres ‘Dre’ Reyes, Wahl Education and Artistic Team member and owner of Headliners, Inc. Barbershop in Aurora, IL.
Reyes shares his hirsute recommendations for men with the following face shapes:
Round – Cheekbones and face length are almost equal, and the length is longer than the forehead and jawline. The forehead and jawline are almost equal with a soft jawline. The goal is to make the face appear to look oval. Either keep the chin hair longer than the rest of the beard or have the whole bottom of the beard longer than the sides. Many beard styles will work with this face shape.
Square – Face length, cheekbones, jawline, and forehead almost all equal in length. The angle of the jawline is sharp, usually with a wide chin. Keep the hair on the center of the chin the longest with shorter sides, and pick a beard style with curves. Avoid beards with sharp corners.
Oblong – The forehead, cheekbones, and jawline are about equal in length, but the face length is longer. Keeping the sides fuller/longer and the bottom of the beard shorter will make the jawline look wider giving more of an oval face shape appearance. Avoid letting the bottom of the beard get too long.
Diamond – This face length is the longest. The width of the cheekbones is the 2nd longest followed by the forehead, and the jawline is the smallest with a pointed chin. A beard that is really tight in the sideburn area that increases in length or fullness in the jawline but is shorter/tighter in the front of the chin will work best.
Triangular – Large or wide jawline followed by smaller cheekbones with a narrow forehead. The face length is insignificant. Keep the beard really tight on the sides and longer on the bottom. A hairstyle with longer sides will also help in making the face appear more oval.
Oval – The length of the face is longer than the width of your cheekbones, and the width of the forehead is longer than the width of the jawline. The angle of the jaw is rounded. Most styles will work with this face shape.
