She collaborates editorially with top fashion photographers and creates the looks for national and international ad campaigns. Recently, she has become a Vegamourhair expert, working with the brand and its award-winning vegan hair, lash, and brow products. MODERN asked Streicher about her approach to talking thinning hair and for her recommendations.
MODERN SALON: You work with so many celebrities—is it a different conversation (talking about hair thinning and loss) when they are celebs vs clients in your chair?
ASHLEY STREICHER: It is absolutely no different. I let the client come to me, while being very open and professional about the subject. I think as long as you are coming at it as a professional there are very tactical ways of speaking about thinning hair. Sometimes talking with celebs about fine and thinning hair is almost easier as its really all about what it looks like on camera, so its always something that is on the radar.
MS: How do you introduce the conversation? What are some phrases you use, and questions you ask?
AS: Again, I let the client come to me as a professional, and they always do. I don't feel that it is something that I would need to bring up, because if someone is happy with their hair and appearance that is what matters to me. Its about confidence.
MS: Do you see more thinning issues than you have in the past? And, if so, why do you think that is?
AS: I definitely see it more. Pretty much everyone I see in my chair is addressing SOME kind of hair change. I believe it is due to the mental and physical stresses of the last couple of years. Any kind of stress, physical or mental can cause shifts in our hormones that then can cause changes in scalp and hair growth.
MS: Do you have any styling tips for camouflaging thinning hair, especially at the hairline?
AS: The hairline is usually the first place people tend to notice thinning, even for myself, I like to style hair forward so that the hairline is covered. Its also the main area that I focus on when using my Vegamour GRO Serum. I find even folks with THICK hair tend to be more thin at the hairline.
MS: How do you introduce products to your clients?
AS: I've never been a pushy salesperson when it comes to selling or recommending products. My biggest sales pitch when introducing products are just using them. I am big into education and showing clients how to use products on themselves. I just USE the products. Sometimes I first like to show the product on my own hair, that way they know how to do it on themselves. Using the product is a great easy way to introduce and sell a product.
