Thinking creatively helped her continue to retail products and prepare to reopen her salon.

Tamara Groves found new opportunity for retailing salon products in an unlikely location--and it worked.
During COVID closures, salons had to get creative to stay afloat.
Entrepreneur and salon owner Tamara Groves sees opportunity everywhere. So when the COVID-19 pandemic forced her to close the doors to A Unique Dimensions, her Jacksonville, Florida salon, she knew she had to find a new revenue stream. Enter her husband, Darien Groves.
Darien owns Ortega Paint, a Benjamin Moore paint store, which was busier than ever during the shutdown, as quarantined customers spent their time at home remodeling and updating their living spaces.
Darien, who has significant hair thinning, started using tried Actiiv, a shampoo-based system for men and women experiencing hair loss or wanting to target and combat hair loss before it is visible, in December, not long after Tamara’s salon began carrying the short line (which includes Actiiv Recover Thickening Cleansing Treatment for Men, Actiiv Recover Thickening Cleansing Treatment for Women, Actiiv Recover Thickening Conditioner and Actiiv Renew Healing Cleansing Treatment).
Darien soon started to see results and when he shared before and after pictures of his fast hair regrowth with his customers, they wanted to get Actiiv, too. Tamara brought products to the paint store and, she says, they began flying out the door.
Soon, Darien was selling enough products to his customers to increase Tamara’s regular retail sales by 50 to 60% per week. Add on her sales of Tupperware and the entrepreneurial couple hit the ground running when the salon re-opened.
Not only did the sales of Actiiv keep the salon alive, Tamara got a new client, too...her husband.
