Dear friends-
My name is Karen Gordon. We might already know each other, but let me introduce myself just in case we don’t. I own J. Gordon Designs, one of Chicago’s longest established salons, located in the heart of one of the city’s most beautiful neighborhoods, Lincoln Park. For those of you who have visited Chicago, we are near the zoo and the lakefront. If you don’t know me, you may have known my late husband, the inimitable Jerry Gordon. J. Gordon Designs was founded by Jerry 43 years ago and it is still going strong today.
Along with now being the sole owner of the salon with the added responsibilities that go along with that, I’m also a hair colorist, Intercoiffure member, Secretary of Cosmetologists Chicago/America’s Beauty Show and an entrepreneur at heart. I lecture on business across the country. My plate is pretty full, but this year I’ve added Hair Loss Specialist to my resume. Soon I will be a Certified Trichologist (remember that term from beauty school?), throwing myself heart and soul into what I believe will be the fastest growing segment of our industry. What does this mean? I’m specializing in helping people with hair loss issues.

You might be wondering, with a full plate why take on more? First, don’t all creative types do this? It’s just our nature. Second, and more important, consider this. Studies show that 1 in 4 women between the ages of 25-55 will experience some form of hair loss. And, 80% of men will experience hair loss in their lifetime. There are millions of potential clients out there that need our help! Now ask yourself, who in your community is servicing these people and providing hair loss solutions? I’ll bet most of you can’t name anyone. I want it to be me and my team!
If your books are slow, if you have a treatment rooms that sit empty, if you ‘re looking for ways to attract new clients without discounting, I hope I’ve piqued your interest. Even if your business is thriving, you definitely have clients who need help with hair loss issues. I hope you’ll follow me as I share my journey of how I introduced hair loss as a new category in our salon and created a unique POD for our business while growing our client base and increasing our service and retail revenue. The road is uncharted my friends. Let me show you the way.
