How can stylists get special-occasion clients interested in hair extensions for their big day?

“As a bridal stylist, more than ever, your client is looking to you for answers on how she should look for her special day,” says Jennifer Parks, VP of Bellami and licensed stylist. “Mirror clings calling out the brand of extensions you work with are a subtle way. If you are not-so-subtle, wear the extensions yourself to show your client the transformation that happens when wearing long, natural-looking, glamourous hair. Your bride’s checkbook is open—and she will tell her friends and bridesmaids.”

“During the consultation, we will dress the room or the station for a hair extension consultation with swatches and alternative hair,” says Tina McIntosh, national trainer for Ultratress Extensions, a brand of Hair Visions International. “Once the parameters are set for the design, we discuss what would make the look pop or how it can be enhanced. The next step in the process is longevity. Many brides will want to sport their new look from the rehearsal through the honeymoon, so seamless or tape-in hair is a good option. Some do not want to fuss and will prefer clip in or even top of head enhancements. Either way, it’s important to strike while the iron is hot. Include the cost of hair with their bridal trial and wedding-day services.”

McIntosh adds it’s a good idea to have before-and-after images of a desired look with and without extensions, noting that a tangible photo can aid in showing a bride the difference additional hair makes.
