Blonding specialist Kim Bruce, @themisfitblonde, shares her secret to the perfect blowout: Hot Tools' One Step Blowout brush.

Achieving the perfect bombshell blowout is no easy task, even for a seasoned professional. At MODERN, we often hear stylists joke that they get their best workout in the salon due to the amount of time, effort and strength it takes to give clients that fresh-out-of-the salon finish.
The days of arm-straining blowouts are gone, thanks to Hot Tools’ new One-Step Blowout. The tool features a black gold styling surface that combines Nano Titanium ceramic with Refresh3 Max Activated Charcoal, which allows hair to glide smoothly and distribute heat evenly. The brand’s signature Micro-Shine finish is corrosion-resistant to minimize friction and help reduce damage to hair.
Blonding specialist Kim Bruce, @themisfitblonde, loves using her One Step Blowout brush in the salon.
“The One-Step Blowout has changed the game,” Bruce says. “The oval brush design has gently curved sides for smoothing hair while round edges create volume at the roots and beautifully curled-under ends. This tool is a must.”
In this video tutorial, Bruce demos using the One Step Blowout to achieve blonde bombshell hair. Plus, get the details on the formula below.
Starting in the nape, foil slices every 1/8-1/4 inch, continuing up the back of the head in a brick lay pattern stopping right under the crown of the head.
On the side, switch to a vertical weave right on the hairline and continue three more foils weaved back to back.
Switch to horizontal slices up the side. Repeat the other side.
On the front “money piece” create four back-to-back weaves starting directly on the hairline.
Continue with the Mohawk section taking baby slices and leaving very little in between until reaching just below the crown where you can finish the back.
After your foils are complete. section the hair remaining out from the foil and balayage the remaining hair using clay lightened and a 2-inch chip brush.
Incubating with a foil underneath and plastic wrapping on top, process for 30 minutes.
Shampoo with a purple shampoo and apply a deep conditioning mask for 5 minutes.
Towel dry to get as much moisture out as possible.
Apply a smoothing cream and a heat protectant.
Starting in the front, blow dry blew front, face-framing section first. PRO TIP: "I like to blow dry this area first so it doesn’t dry flat to the guests head, and I like to get as much volume in the area as possible. I start by bringing that section forward over directing it and rolling towards her face, then when it is almost dried i roll it back and over direct it back for added volume, continuing this through the crown.
Once the top is dry, continue to the sides and split the section in two. Continue the sides until they are completely dry using good tension.
Continuing to the back, section the back into quadrants. Then use strong tension to pull the curl out for maximum smoothness.
Finish by switching to cool to lock in the set all over.
To curl, spray with a shine heat protectant and taking 1 1/2-inch sections, curl with the Hot Tools 1-inch marcel curling iron. Starting in the front, on both sides, curl away from the face. At the back, alternate sections by curling one toward the face and one away from the face. Finish with a light hold shaping spray and no hold shine spray.
