Arielle Calamari, stylist at Aurelio Salon in Howell and Toms River, New Jersey, had a client who requested a vibrant, red ombre with hints of violet. The client indicated she didn't want her hair very highlighted at the roots, so Calamari subtly blended from root color to brighter ends.

"Balayage was popular this summer because it created natural dimension that was soft and beautiful, but now that it's fall, we're turning to demi-permanents to offer different shades and tones," Calamari says. "They can be applied to existing colors to either deepen, control or add more pigment."

Client had natural level 6N new growth previously glazed with Goldwell Colorance using three different formulas. Previous formula and current canvas consisted of:
6R + 7RR max (roots)
7KR + 7KG (mid-shaft)
8K + 9KG (ends)

STEP 1: Pain highlights into hair using Goldwell Oxycur Lightener with 10-volume developer.

STEP 2: Section hair into pie sections. The center of the pie should be at the crown.

STEP 3: Take slices from the sections and paint hair on each side. Blend ends.

STEP 4: Color new growth with Goldwell Colorance 5BV and blend into lightened pieces.
