As a makeup artist, it’s my job to make whomever sits in my chair gorgeous. Unfortunately, brutal winter winds often turn the prettiest skins into a rough and dry canvases. As any beauty professional knows, sandpaper skin is no friend to the art of makeup.
What to do? Follow my top five skin saving tips to transform a winter weary complexion into a glowing moist visage that is camera ready.
STEP ONE: Before I do anything, I use a light scrub to remove the outer layer of the skin to ensure skin nourishing products have an easier time to penetrate and work their magic. My favorite scrub is Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant used with Dermalogica’s Exfoliating Face Brush.
STEP TWO: Once the face is buffed smooth, I apply Aveda Enbrightenment Brightening Correcting Serum to the skin. For extra moisturizing, use the Clarisonic Opal Anti-Aging Eye Corrector, a vibrating device that pushes the product into the skin for added product penetration.
STEP THREE: Next up is lips. Bodyography recently introduced one of my favorite products of the season - Bodyography Exfoliating Lip Duo. In the past, I used an old toothbrush with vaseline to scrub the dry patches off my actor’s or model’s lips. No more. This all-in-one jar comes with an ointment and an exfoliating lip scrub. I like to massage parched lips with the scrub and finish with the ointment.
STEP FOUR: For ashy dry body skin, I use Hempz Original Herbal Body Moisturizer, to give legs and arms a slight healthy sheen. For super dry hands or feet, rub this thick cream on before shoots (or at bedtime) and wear cotton gloves and socks for a deep moisturizing treat.
STEP FIVE: At the end of the shoot or day, and you want to remove the grime of city life as well as makeup, it’s no time to skimp on skincare. It’s essential to use a product that not only removes every last spec of makeup, but also moisturizes and conditions the skin. What have I been using? Cleanse Cleanings Wipes by Lauren Napie. Rich in water, aloe, chamolilla and cucumber, each wipe is slightly textured to aid in gentle and effective cleansing - and no rinsing required.
