Hello warm weather and welcome back beach waves for another season of perfectly tousled texture!
“Beach waves are here to stay,” says Brittany Chevillet, owner of Hair+Co in Pensacola, Florida, who teaches her clients with naturally curly hair how to style it, but also how to create that beachy, tousled look on clients who weren’t born with natural texture.
Chevillet explains how to achieve long-lasting beach waves using ABBA products.
GET THE LOOK:
STEP 1: Shampoo with ABBA Moisture Shampoo to hydrate and strengthen the hair. Then apply ABBA Volume Conditioner to add lift. "The idea is to put moisture into the hair, so it doesn’t get super frizzy without weighing it down, and this combo lets me do that," Chevillet says.
STEP 2: Work ABBA Complete All-in-One Leave-in Spray into the hair from the mid-lengths to the ends. "I am obsessed with this product, which is a detangler, a heat-protectant and a leave-in conditioner," Chevillet says. "I make all of my girls who want to be super-blonde take this product home with them because they need it."
STEP 3: Apply ABBA Curl Prep Spray to damp hair, working from the mid-shaft to ends. The botanically rich spray with lemongrass and orange peel amplifies curls and adds life to dehydrated, naturally curly or permed hair. Chevillet says it gives hair the texture needed to deliver a blowout that’s not so smooth that she can’t work with it later when she uses her curling iron.
STEP 4: Blow-out hair, over-directing the hair to add some volume at the root. The idea is just to lift and smooth the hair.
STEP 5: Curl hair away from the face, using a 1-¼ inch curling iron, which is large enough so you’re bending the hair, not curling it. Leaving the ends relatively straight gives beach waves a natural, textured look. The trick is to take a quick pass over the ends with my curling iron so they’re not completely stick-straight.
STEP 6: Let the curls cool for less than a minute. To provide additional texture that gives you that tousled, messy look you’re going for, take one-inch sections and spray ABBA Always Fresh Dry Shampoo directly onto the root area throughout the crown. Massage into the scalp, using your fingers to shake the hair out. The result: the kind of waves that look like your client spent a day at the beach even if she didn’t.
