Recently, I have been receiving more and more hair photos through our Stylist Contributions tab on Modernsalon.com. This tab allows you to submit your best hair styles, color, makeovers, nail designs, make-up designs and more to MODERN SALON for editorial coverage. Recently, I received photos of a unique rose updo from MODERN SALON fan, Alex Cooper, who shared with us the steps on how to re-create this one-of-a-kind style.

"Recently we had a salon fair and theme was red carpet, so I came up with this look which I called the Red Carpet Rose," says Cooper. "The style is very easy to do and took only about 30 minutes to complete. The most difficult part of creating the rose was forming the last few petals and making sure everything was proportioned and smooth."

STEPS:

Step 1: Part the hair at the apex to create a starting point.
Step 2: Take a section of hair about 1-inch thick and wrap it around to make a cylinder shape. Hold the "bud" in position, and clip it.
Step 3: Continue to use 1-inch pieces and wrap them around your starting point. Rotate the hair while you clip it. Use lots of hairspray to keep the hair in place. Continue this step until you get the desired size for the center "bud" of the rose. (You can also use your flatiron to help mold the hair in the direction you want it to go.)
Step 4: Then, take a section of hair about two inches thick, spray with hairspray and mold them around your hand to give the effect of the rose opening up and clip at the base of the hair "bud." Continue to repeat this step until you get the rose to your desired size.
Step 5: Once you achieve your desired size for the rose, remove all of the clips.
Step 6: Tell your client to gently tilt their head upside down and French braid the back of the style.
