MODERN checked in with celebrity makeup artist David Maderich to learn more about his makeup "Hits and Misses" for the 2015 Golden Globe Awards. Here, he shares his thoughts on the winning, and not so winning looks:
It was all about understated elegance at the 2015 Golden Globe Awards. Glowing skin, sheer nude lips and softly lined eyes took the spotlight on the red carpet Sunday night.

Best Actress Golden Globe winner Julianne Moore led the beauty parade in a silver and black feathered and sequined Givenchy gown. With side parted beachy hair, soft smokey eyes, flawless eyebrows and nude matte lips, Miss Moore effortlessly ruled the red carpet.

Continuing the less is more trend were Amy Adams and Jennifer Aniston, all looked stunning in naturally neutral smokey eyes, flushed cheeks and glossy nude lips with a hint of pink.

Keeping with the theme of simple elegance, Naomi Watts and Lorde swapped out nude lips for red lips to add a touch of fun and color to their looks. Kudos to all the ladies for leaving the heavy contour and highlight effects in the makeup room.

The beauty wild card of the night was songstress Lana Del Rey. Unfortunately, her vintage inspired dress was not a winner, but her Elvira meets Priscilla Presley bouffant hairdo and winged eyeliner was a fun trip down retro lane. Bravo for taking a beauty risk.
Of course, with beauty winners, come better-luck-next-time looks.

Jennifer Lopez usually glows with youthful radiance on the red carpet, but not this time out. Her stiff Zuhair Murad gown was a bit much, and paired with overly lacquered hair, harsh black eyeliner and thick foundation, everything was over overdone. I suggest she ease up on the hard makeup and get back her J Lo glow.

Lupita Nyong’o's red carpet choices are usually spot on. Without a doubt, she is a true 21st century beauty. However, at the Golden Globes it was a bit purple overkill. Although her Giambattista Valli gown was stunning, it was paired with matchy matchy earnings, purple eyeshadow and plum lipstick, which made her a bit overly ultra violet. Nude lips would have classed up this look.

Most improved red carpet beauty goes to acting icon Meryl Streep. At previous awards shows, Streep often appeared undone with messy hair, blah makeup and matronly attire. Well, no more. At the Golden Globes she looked chic in a cream and black Lanvin gown paired with red lips and clean fresh skin. Bravo.
