In addition to giving a great cut, Acord says male clients need direction when it comes to product selection and application. “Hairdressers shy away from selling, but should know that male clients are the most dedicated and loyal. They like quality in products and tools and buy items that last.”

Acord advises that all hairdressers and barbers keep an arsenal of products on display and demo in front of client, suggesting that the artist teach how to cocktail products to take the mystery out of styling.

“Make it easy for them to finish their own hair,” he says, “even though they will be touching it all day long. It’s not easy to keep a guy’s hands out of his hair.”
