Last night's Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City, or the only Monday we look forward to the entire year, set the scene for gowns and garbs following (more or less) this year's theme “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology," in accordance to the museum's new exhibit of the same name.
When styling fashionista Blake Lively's hair, stylist Rod Ortega wanted to create a modern take on a Greek goddess.
To recreate:
STEP 1: Start with wet hair and spray L’Oréal Blow Out Heat Spray onto the root to give hair volume.
STEP 2: Finger dry hair starting at the root with the T3 Featherweight Luxe 2i dryer. Then, using the T3 Vent Brush, smooth in pieces here and there, while keeping some texture.
STEP 3: Take the top section of the hair into a triangle (from temple to temple to the back of the head) and clip it out. Smooth the remaining hair into a ponytail. Ponytail is not too high, not too low, just at the middle part of the back of head.
STEP 4: Take the top triangle section and backcomb it with the T3 Vent Brush, so it has a little more height than on the sides. Smooth it back, spray with Elnett (let it dry) and then brush it into a ponytail. Use an elastic to secure, and then combine the two ponytails. Add additional texture with T3 Whirl Convertible Styling Wand.
STEP 5: Twist ponytail into a bun, creating a mid-head chignon (so the bun can be seen when looking at her head-on). Take hair bun nets and cut into two half moon pieces. Take two pieces of hair and wrap around the half-moon bun pieces, then place then on side of bun, anchoring with pins and blending as you go.
STEP 6: Take two other pieces of hair and twist them around the big bun, securing with pins, with a perfectly imperfect style.
