MSTV: Low Maintenance Highlights For a Traveling Client

If you have clients going out of the country or on a long vacation where they won't be able to keep up with their hair color, you're going to want to recommend the perfect color combination so that when their hair grows out it will look natural! Known for her creative color techniques and customization, it comes as no surprise that Beth Minardi is one of the country's leading colorists and educators. MODERN challenged her to create low-maintenance hair color on a client leaving the country for four months.

In this Modern Salon TV segment, Minardi tells us exactly what she's going to be doing to her client Margo's hair. Before coloring she sits down with Beauty and Fashion Director Maggie Mulhern and fills her in on her color plan. Basically Minardi says that in a situation where the ends are lightened and brightened as though it looks like the sun highlighted the hair, then it should look fine-however, what you DON'T want is a solid line of demarcation or black roots with white ends.

In her color process, Minardi does a little "veneering" and "edging" concentrating more blonde at the root and more brown through the hair strands. She also weaved a little demi-permanent no lift lowlight into the hair for a fresher look.

The result on Margo was a lot less blonde and more brown. Want to see the results? Check out the Modern Salon TV episode now! You can also check out highlights from Long Beach's International Salon and Spa Expo, Matrix's Imagination event and catch up with Tabatha Coffey!
