Oribe’s presence at New York Fashion Week this past February was massive.  The Oribe team’s hair design spanned eight different shows (20 if you include Men’s Day), with the team consisting of 58 different artists.

“The most memorable part of this season was collaborating with The Blonds again,” explains Oribe Principal Artist of Global Design,Kien Hoang. “We sourced 40 wigs to custom fit the looks and personalities of the 20 individual models in the show. When I first saw the mood board for the show, I was immediately reminded of [brand founder] Oribe Canales. There were references to Elizabeth Taylor in Butterfly Eight and Valley of the Dolls… Oribe loved vintage glamour and old Hollywood movies, so I was instantly taken back to our time working together. I was able to tap into everything I learned from working with him. It was like creating a dream with hair. Of course, the best part of every season is coming together and working with the team of Oribe artists. We only had two hours to pull off the voluminous yet modern look so it was a really exciting moment, and I couldn’t have done it without our team.”

Head of State

Hair by Kien Hoang

The Head of State Autumn/Winter 2023 Collection drew inspiration from designer Taofeek Abijako’s father’s immigration journey from Lagos, Nigeria. Kien Hoang created two distinct looks that translated the sculptural elements of the collection and incorporated specific references to Lagos’ unique architectural texture, social nuances and landmarks.
