Celebrity Hairstylist Robert Vetica used Olivia Garden brushes to create presenter Daisy Ridley's modern bun.
Vetica drew inspiration from structural hair styles to create a look that was high-end but modern and fresh.
"Her look is young and cool, and at the same time very modern," he says. "For the inspiration, I drew from very structural hair styles, things that were molded organically, with twists and folds, and then the other end of the spectrum, looks that were fashion-forward and crafted in a more technical, architectural way. In the end, I took my favorite parts from each of those looks and combined them together.
"We played off the feeling of her Chanel Couture dress, which had a 1920’s flapper vibe, but didn’t want to be literal with hair down, so we decided to do our own version of that look and apply it to how those girls might wear their hair today. Can I say that it’s badass? That’s how I feel about it!”
To create the look, Vetica used hair pieces in Ridley's shoulder-length hair for length and volume, which he prepped with oil.
He began by prepping hair with heat protectant from roots to end, along with volumnizer. Next, Vetica had Ridley flip her head over so he could blowdry her roots to give extra volume to anchor the updo. Once roots were close to dry, he blowdried the rest as a typical blowout using Olivia Garden's Ceramic+Ion Thermal Round Brush. "It’s important when creating a more structural style, to use ceramic based tools that add extra heat to the hair, and help mold and shape the style," Vetica says. He used styling cream from the ears down on her dry hair to relax ends.
Securing the top section of hair, Vetica brushed the rest back into a top knot at the base of the crown with Olivia Garden Style-Up Teasing Brush. He used hairspray to create a clean, tight look to the top knot.
With the remaining hair that had been sectioned off at the start, Vetica back combed it with Olivia Garden Style-Up Teasing Brush at the root, securing section to the top knot with pins. Then, with prepped 22-inch hair piece, he wrapped it around the top knot and secured with more pins.
He worked styling cream into the long ponytail, sectioned it off into two and twisted both sections down the entire length of the pony, securing twist at certain points with an elastic. Using bobby pins, Vetica pinned hair down at other points to create a sculpted look.
