Flat irons are a handy tools when it comes to giving clients effortless waves. For stylist Katie DeLuca, creating beautiful finishes on her clients often involves the use of a flat iron, and lately, she's been turing to Olivia Garden's Ceramic + Ion Professional Flat Iron when looking to add texture.
Featuring high performance dual-ceramic heaters, a super-fast heat up and temperature recovery, the tool includes 11 digital temperature settings, an ergonomic thumb rest and a 30 -minute, auto turn-off safety feature.
"I love how comfortable the iron feels in my hand," DeLuca says. "The thinner plates really help with detail work."
Recently, DeLuca took to Instagram to demo the difference between push waves and traditional flat iron curls (and when to opt for each).
"When a look requires less volume and more of a 'natural' wave, I prefer to create push waves," she says. "They give the hair a mermaid effect without building volume. You can either brush them out smooth or build the texture with a beach spray. I also love to use this technique on short hair because it doesn't pull the length up or push the volume out to the sides."
