When we think of romantic updos, Krystle Waivio is one of our favorite artists who come to mind. Waivio first caught the eyes of MODERN editors back in September 2016 when she on our Wedding Party Wednesday contest on Instagram with a beautiful fishtail braid upstyle. Since then, Waivio has been a semifinalist in our other competitions and has even served as a judge herself!
Recently, we were stopped in our tracks at a gorgeous pink-ish purple updo Waivio posted to Instagram. We knew the photo would resonate with the MODERN audience, so we reached out to Waivio for all the details.
To add dimension for this style, Waivio reached for Moroccanoil’s Color-Depositing masks, stylists can give clients instant gratification with color results that will not only blend beautifully but will also condition the hair. The collection deposits pure pigments along with the benefi ts of a deep-conditioning mask. The seven temporary shades—Champagne, Platinum, Hibiscus, Aquamarine, Rose Gold, Bordeaux and Cocoa—are designed to enhance color vibrancy, refresh existing tones or allow for experimentation while helping to restore the hair.
Wavio says the masks add luminosity to clients who already have balayage.
“For clients who have darker color with minimal highlights, the masks work to enhance the hair in two ways,” she says. “The balayaged areas are toned, and the natural hair is enhanced with so much shine.”
To get the dimension she was seeking for this updo, Waivio shampooed her client's hair and towel dried it. She then combined equal parts Aquamarine, Platinum and Hibiscus.
"If your client has thick or long hair, apply the masks in sections, then comb through with a wide tooth comb, making sure the mask is evenly saturated," Waivio says. "Let it sit for 5-7 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with cool water."

"After experimenting a few times, I have found the color lasts a few shampoos, depending on your client's color, the color you choose and the porosity of the hair," ," she says. "It’s such a great way to try out something fun for a bit!"
