One to Watch: Ryan Burrell

In the words of Ryan Burrell, a hair stylist at A’SalonBizz in Westchester, Illinois, he’s “married to hair.” Originally studying biochemistry, Burrell realized after seeing a movie about a salon, the true path he wanted to take was one in the beauty industry. Now, he has completed shoots with Bianca Golden and Bre Scullark from America’s Top Model with celebrity stylist Val Hamilton; Tamera Young from the Women’s National Basketball Association’s Chicago Sky; and he also partners with Mizani and Habitat for Humanity. Having a passion for editorial fashion, colors and textures found in natural surroundings serve as his constant inspirations.

Spending a day with Beth Minardi, co-owner of Minardi Salon and Joico Vero K-Pak spokesperson, is like taking a crash course at Harvard. It’s non-stop education, both in her terminology, her applications and formulations. Celebrity Watch: Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie went for a dramatic hair change recently, going from long brunette locks to a rich, honey blonde bob. Joico celebrity colorist George Papanikolas was responsible for the shade transformation. About the client: “She wanted a big change in both style and color,” says Papanikolas, who also made Richie brunette. “Nicole is pretty versatile. She looks good with blonde or dark hair, and she likes to have fun with hair color. She’s got a lot of warmth in her eyes, so I chose more of a golden blonde.”
