New Device Assesses and Measures Progress of Hair Loss Treatments
A new device measures hair loss, hair breakage and the scalp’s response to hair-loss products and treatments. Instead of offering clients products to address thinning hair, and hoping they work, this new device shows clients if the products are working—by measuring the results.
Warm Brunette by Artease
The artistic team of Artease, a new boutique line of color, recently released its debut collection. The looks were created with Arteasecolors, which feature an easy-to-use system with 89 shades that can be used as permanent or demipermanent color. The pigment is 99-percent unoxidized and colorists can achieve 100-percent gray coverage with 10-volume developer.
Dying for Demis
Do your clients understand the difference between a demipermanent and permanent color? Have you educated them on the different results they can achieve with looks and coverage? While a demi is great for a color-shy client, permanent color can achieve more dramatic change and better gray coverage for clients with more than 50- percent gray. However, demis still tend to be the most popular variety among clients.

A Simple Philanthropic Idea
In Wasilla, Alaska, owner Jennifer Camer organizes a simple philanthropic activity that helps clients and staff get in the holiday spirit while bringing joy to local disadvantaged youth. Each year, Camer’s Selah Salon and Health Spa (selahsalonandspa.com) receives gift tags from the Salvation Army. Each tag lists the name and age of a child, as well as the child’s gift request.
Holiday Advertising on Television
For years, Seattle’s Habitude Salon Spa Gallery (habitude.com), sunk its holiday advertising money in billboards, radio and print advertising. But this year owner Inez Gray felt her money was better spent on a television campaign. “I thought we could create more of a feeling with TV, and I also wanted to move in this direction so we can take our website and Facebook pages to new levels with video and imagery,” she says.
