MODERN SALON Media sent a team of six editors—Maggie Mulhern, Stacey Soble, Alison Shipley, Lauren Salapatek, Jan Hillenmeyer and myself—to PBA Beauty Week this past weekend, plus a camera crew and photographer to interview industry icons and cover major events. 2011 NAHA Winners Announced!
Eli Mancha received top honors at the North American Hairstyling Awards at PBA Beauty Week in Las Vegas. Mancha is the artistic director for the Lock & Loaded design team and owner of Bang! salon in Chicago. He and his team, along with winners in 12 other NAHA categories, were celebrated at the annual “Academy Awards of hair”-inspired gala. See the complete list of NAHA winners.
PBA Announces New Fall Dates for 2012 ISSE Midwest Show
The Professional Beauty Association (PBA) has announced that the ISSE (International Salon and Spa Expo) Midwest event is moving from the spring to fall season starting in 2012.
“Passsionately Pink” Campaign
Fighting breast cancer is a serious endeavor at BSG/ Cosmoprof. During September and October the company’s “Passsionately Pink” campaign promoted breast cancer awareness throughout North America with store activities, salon programs and product promotions.
Celebrating REDKEN‘s 50 Years of Lighting the Way
Long-time Redken executive and spokesperson Ann Mincey emceed the event that included a gallery of Redken memorabilia and guests who included Vidal and Ronnie Sassoon, former senior executive Bill Peplow and his wife Pam, and Redken’s fi rst distributor Bob Peel Sr. of Peel’s Salon Services along with his wife Lou, and son Bob Peel Jr. and his wife Kris. “Redken created superior products and educational programs which propelled the industry’s transformation and created a solid foundation for the company’s continued success,” said David Cannell, Ph.D., retired senior vice president of research and development.
Premiere Orlando Brings in the Crowds
Premiere Orlando returned to the Orange County Convention Center June 4-6 with attendance exceeding 50,000. Salon professionals from all 50 states and 14 countries came for educational opportunities and the 780 exhibitors who filled 2,700 booths.

I recently spoke with Michael O’Rourke who is receiving the NAHA Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s NAHA awards ceremony in Las Vegas July 31 during Cosmoprof/PBA Beauty Week. Speaking to Michael is always an inspiration because the passion he has for the industry is genuine and infectious. If you have seen him on the show floor or on the stage, you know what I mean.

It’s officially here! Premiere Orlando! As I write this, I’m sitting at the airport, eagerly anticipating the big show crowds, the exciting product launches and demonstrations, the inspirational education and the familiar faces I’ve grown accustomed to seeing each industry show! What I’m not excited for? THE ORLANDO HEATTTTT. Ugh. It’s going to be so hot and muggy, I’m just not prepared for it.
