Rodrick Samuels on The Silent Work, Modern Beauty Education and Why Empathy Wins
MODERN SALON sat down with Samuels to discuss the book, beauty education, mentorship and the habits that help beauty professionals thrive.
Premiere Orlando just wrapped and, wow, what a show! On June 4, 5 and 6, 2011, the industry's leading names gathered at Orlando's Orange County Convention Center for the latest in education, competitions, trend setting and product launches in hair, nails, spa, make-up and business.
Premiere Orlando just wrapped and, wow, what a show! On June 4, 5 and 6, 2011, the industry's leading names gathered at Orlando's Orange County Convention Center for the latest in education, competitions, trend setting and product launches in hair, nails, spa, make-up and business.
With more than 48,000 attendees, the show certainly was a success. MODERN was there, in full mode, and loved every minute of it. MODERN celebrated our new booth, that featured a super comfy seating and meeting area, a full-service subscription center with complimentary copies of MODERN, SALON TODAY and FIRST CHAIR, and MODERN Publisher Steve Reiss gave a presentation to salon owners, managers, stylists and business leaders on social media and digital strategies to boost salon business.
MODERN's booth also featured a stage were we welcomed educators: Ivan Zoot of Andis, Jaime Carroll of MODERN SALON Learning, Lilliam Penaloza of Rusk, Sherilynn Smart Pureology, Chandra Thorpe of Mizani, Marcia Teixeira, David Guerin of Oster, Organic Salon Systems, Brazilian Heat, Ammon Carver and Franco Della Grazia of Matrix, Adrienne Rogers of Product Club, Annie Breckenridge from Scruples, GK Hair's Fabrice Castellisi, Malibu Wellness, Chris Baran of Redken, Wahl, Martin Parsons, Shantel from FHI Heat, Pravana, Izunami, Chrytopher Benson and Steve Waldman of Matrix, Martino Cartier from Keratin Complex, Aquage and Simplicity extensions.
Premiere Mainstage: The Premiere Orlando Main Stage feature the latest industry fashions and trends including appearances and instruction from JPMS' Angus Mitchell, Robert Cromeans and Stephanie Kocielski; celeb stylist Ted Gibson of What Not to Wear; Christopher and Sonya Dove for Hairdreams; Matrix's Nicholas French, Patrick McIvor, Nick Stenson, Brian and Sandra Smith; Farouk's Leonel Rodriguez and Rocky Vitelli; celeb stylist Nick Arrojo; Martin Parsons; Sam Villa; and more.
On the showfloor, Hair enhancements continued to be a big attraction—stylists looked for new application methods including adhesives, glue, bonding and fusion. While feather extensions drew crowds for the full duration of the show—though some starter kits sold out in just a few hours.
The UV-cured, no-chip manicure category maintained industry excitement—especially when a Flash Mob from CND’s Shellac broke out in the lobby of the convention center! The straightening and taming category also drew in large crowds, as the buzz about keratin-based services has increased the availability of formula and ingredient options. Classrooms were packed—arming colorists and stylists with education on the latest techniques including Ombre color, no-brass reds and cool brunettes. Student hair and nail competitions, a staple of trade shows, were also full of excitement!
Save the date for 2012’s Premiere Orlando, June 2,3, and 4—and read on to check out some of the pictures of the booth demos and catch some of the excitement seen at Premiere Orlando!
