Red haircolor is well-known to lose its vibrancy faster than other dyes, but now that's all changing.
Farouk Systems Inc. has launched the CHI Ionic Color Illuminate line of color enhancing conditioners available in six vibrant shades. Use these as an add-on service for your clients looking for a touch-up or recommend these conditioners as at-home maintenance products for clients who want longer lasting haircolor.
A haircolor replenishing agent, these conditioners contain color dyes and tones that are directly deposited into strands in one simple conditioning step. The key ingredient, Silk Amino Complex, is composed of ceramic and amino acids that concurrently penetrate the hair cuticle to thoroughly deliver both color and moisture. Color is preserved and balanced while softness is ultimately restored.
Make sure you consider your client's starting tone and level of haircolor as well as porosity when determining shade and processing time.
How do you use it?
For a dose of pigment: Shampoo hair, rinse, and towel dry. Then, apply CHI Ionic Color Illuminate Conditioner to hair and distribute evenly. Leave it in for 1-5 minutes and then rinse.
For more dramatic results: Shampoo rinse and towel dry. Then, apply CHI Ionic Color Illuminate Conditioner to hair and distribute evenly. Leave it in for five minutes with low heat and cool down for 10 to 20 minutes at room temperature.
The best part is the colors are intermixable, so you can create custom shades for the perfect look. Here, Farouk Systems Inc. shares with us an example on how you can mix two of the Color Illuminate Conditioners to create a customized look.
Follow the how-to below:
1 part - CHI Ionic Color Illuminate, Conditioner Mahogany Red
1 part - CHI Ionic Color Illuminate Conditioner Red Auburn

2. After processing, shampoo with CHI Infra Shampoo.
3. Towel dry hair to remove excess water.
4. Dispense 1 part of CHI Ionic Color Illuminate Conditioner in Mahogany Red and 1 part of CHI Ionic Color Illuminate Conditioner in Red Auburn into a color bowl.
5. Mix and whisk until thoroughly blended.
6. Using gloved hands, apply the mixture evenly through the hair from roots to ends.
7. Leave in for 5 minutes on low heat and cool down for 10 minutes at room temperature - OR- 20 minutes without heat.
8. Style as desired using CHI products.
