Fall Forecast: I’ve been seeing a big shift in hair texture and movement. Movement is the key, and I’m not ashamed to admit that here in NYC I’m actually doing some texture services. In the old days it was called “perming,” but we don’t say that anymore—and neither should you. I call it “targeted texture services,” because we are treating only certain areas, not necessarily doing the whole head. It can be the ends for bend, or it can be the roots through mid-lengths. Some of our clients are not blessed with beachy, natural, “just woke up and looks amazing” hair; they need a little help. This is great for hairdressers; it means a second service and product sales.
Exciting product to share with clients: I’m a fan of the new Wave Customizer from Matrix Opti-Effects Neutral pH Dual Wave System. It has a breakthrough technology that no other brand has.
Curl creed: I am a texture type of guy! I have very curly hair, so I know how to treat it. It’s important not to make curly or textured hair angry, or it will bite you and not respond to your wishes. You need to treat textured hair with respect.
