The B Hive Salon of Hillsdale, NJ is a true "Earth" salon. Here is a tour.

One of the most exciting salons to have opened its doors lately is the B Hive Salon in Hillsdale, NJ. The salon, in a true nod to the environment, is made of as many repurposed and recycled materials as possible. This "green" salon features wind powered energy, low and no VOC paint, reclaimed barn siding table and mirrors, recycled styling chairs upholstered in eco-teck fabric and a recycled reception desk wrapped in certified green veneer. B Hive is Gold Certified with Green America and Platinum Certified with the Green Business Bureau.
But the "space" is only part of the story. Owners husband and wife team of Angela Alba, James Alba and partner Frank Flores actively look to bring in the most organic, pure and eco friendly products for their clients and staff. “When I brought my son into work for the first time after being on maternity leave for a few weeks I could not believe the smell of chemicals," says Angela. Thus began her journey to find beauty products that were of professional quality as well as the safest available. "We test products constantly and vow to be transparent with vendors and our clients."
James, who serves as Manager and Marketing Director, makes sure that all the products in the salon are up to par. "We use the cleanest ammonia free professional color line to date, Organic Color Systems. We also try to buy local when possible and keep price in mind as well."
James appreciates that he is not alone in his quest to keep B Hive as pure as possible. "We are fortunate to have a great local distributor in Depasquale Salon Systems that carries products whose eco practices make it a great hybrid of performance and natural. They introduced us to Davines... a perfect fit for our salon."
"I pride myself on the fact that my staff is working in a safer environment and that clients can feel safe whether it be for themselves or during pregnancy and nursing," says Angela. "The B Hive Salon is where clients can feel beautiful about getting beautiful."
James takes us on a tour of B Hive in this video. It's worth the trip!
