We've rounded up the best and worst looks from the 2011 Oscars, as determined by you, MODERN's readers! Here's what you had to say, according to comments posted on our Facebook wall during the event on Sunday, February 27. The criticism, compliments and all-out funny comments made our night. Read all the comments on facebook.com/modernsalon. Now, the envelope please … here are the best and worst!

THE BEST

Several MODERN readers proclaimed Mila Kunis, who presented an award, as the overall best look of the night. You loved her lacy lavender dress and polished hair and makeup. You commented: "Very chic from head to toe-love the color of her dress!" "Lovvveee it! Stunnning." "Amazing dress and the color was so soft and beautiful. Like her whole look, it flowed."

Plenty of you also gave the nod to Oscar-winner Natalie Portman's look, as she glowed in her plum dress and simple sideswept 'do. Just a couple of readers wished she'd left the earrings at home: "[They] were a little weird ... didn't go with the rest of the look!"

Finally, even though she wasn't a nominee, Jennifer Hudson made your style shortlist with many readers mentioning her as a favorite. Her bold dress, classic updo and flawless makeup was awarded a "Thumbs up."

THE WORST

Amy Adams' blue sequined dress made the grade, but her hair, makeup and/or jewelry ruined the final effect for you. You said: "The hair does not work with this dress. The necklace should have been left out." "Love the hair, love the dress, but the necklace looks out of place." "Bad eyeshadow, too."

The consensus was that Nicole Kidman's flyaway fringe was a downer-and her whole look may be a bit outdated to boot. "Nicole's hair wasn't that great!" "Is it wrong that I want to make over Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman?? I want to bring them into this time, they are still looking like they did at least seven years ago if not longer."

You were mum on her sexy violet lace dress, but loud and clear about her hair. Absolutely no one liked Scarlett Johansson's choppy, touseled bob. "What the heck is going on with Scarlett Johansson's hair????!!!! It's awful!!!" "Scarlett's hair was horrible!" "Someone please give Scarlett a brush!"

MIXED REVIEWS

Reese's retro high ponytail drew comparisons to "I Dream of Jeannie" and Barbie, but you were split on whether that was a good thing or not. "Reese is beautiful in anything, but the pony was a bit Barbie." "She looks like a Barbie doll from the '60s with the hair and dress... I think I like it (not too sure)." "I love it!!! She looks like Barbie!!!!!" "I can't decide if it's hot … or not!!"

In Dubai, Clients Visit the Salon Every Week. Here’s What That Market Can Teach You

In Dubai, a salon visit isn’t an appointment. It’s a weekly routine, and clients can spend $800 to $1,400 a month on it, according to Gaurav Tripathi of MADI International. On October 6-8, 2026, the market behind those numbers opens its doors as Beautyworld Dubai marks its 30th edition at the Dubai World Trade Centre, bringing together distributors, brands, stylists and salon owners from all over the world.
