After witnessing a Matrix presentation on Chairs of Change, a program that allows stylists to create initiatives to change themselves or the world around them through fundraising and charity, Abby Tresnak, stylist at Hansen’s Hair Haven and manager at Peel’s Salon Centric in Cedar Rapids, knew she wanted to make a difference.

Tresnak spearheads efforts to provide free hair cuts for kids that belong to Big Brothers/ Big Sisters of East Central Iowa. She not only involves her own team, but stylists from other salons as well. “Currently about 50 stylists are participating,” she says. “Kids come from broken homes—they don’t have a lot of money. This is something I can do to help.”
