The CHI LSC-North Harris School of Cosmetology offers programs leading to certificates in cosmetology, esthetics, and instruction, with both part-time and full-time options available. It will also offer low-cost salon services to the community.
“Our company is deeply committed to the communities we serve, and partnering with Lone Star College is yet another way we can invest in the success of those who live here. LSC-North Harris is a great institution to work with as we create a blueprint for what we plan to replicate around the country,” said Farouk Shami, founder and chairman of Farouk Systems.
The relationship between Lone Star College-North Harris and Farouk Systems originally began in 2010 with professional development for instructors, as well as access to CHI products for students, and expanded career opportunities for graduates.
The new venture will capitalize on the products and methods of Farouk Systems, along with the college expertise in education and training. Graduates will gain an understanding of both client service and the manufacturing process. It will also have a strong emphasis on student career placement assistance, drawing on Farouk Systems’ large network of affiliated salons and industry contacts.
“Education is at the heart of our company’s success and innovation,” said Basim Shami, CEO of Farouk Systems. “By partnering with LSC-North Harris, we are uniting one of the largest institutions of academics with our internationally-renowned brand to create a new generation of schools.”

Farouk Systems also expects the school to serve as a model for future partnerships.
“Cosmetology is a huge industry, but finding success requires more than just knowing the latest styles and trends. It requires being a professional and understanding business,” said Dr. Steve Head, president of LSC-North Harris. “Partnering with CHI gives our students the advantage of learning these skills directly from a global leader.”
The state-of-the-art space will also be home to the LSC-North Harris Massage Therapy Program, where students can complete their massage therapy certification in as little as six months. Similar to the cosmetology program, the college partners with local spa owners to ensure its graduates are prepared to succeed in the workplace.
Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, the school will host a runway-style hair show, featuring student work, and offer tours of the building to those in attendance.
