The Dainty Salon in Springfield, NJ, was under construction for weeks this summer while owner Jessica Matos put the finishing touches on her pretty and tasteful space. Instead of covering the windows with old newspapers during the construction phase, Jessica took the covers and beautiful inside pages of old Modern Salon Magazines to post to the outside world. "It really makes sense," she told me when I stopped in for a visit. "While I didn't want the public to look in during construction, I did want them to get a peek at what was coming...great beauty!"

When it came time to take the pages down, Jessica didn't have the heart to trash Modern (YAY!). Instead, she shredded the papers, filled in a vase and now uses as an art decoration at the entrance to Dainty. We DO love it when salons use our covers and pages to either decorate the salon, use as images for client discussion or as artist inspiration, but still appreciate this as a unqiue alternative.

In Dubai, Clients Visit the Salon Every Week. Here’s What That Market Can Teach You

In Dubai, a salon visit isn’t an appointment. It’s a weekly routine, and clients can spend $800 to $1,400 a month on it, according to Gaurav Tripathi of MADI International. On October 6-8, 2026, the market behind those numbers opens its doors as Beautyworld Dubai marks its 30th edition at the Dubai World Trade Centre, bringing together distributors, brands, stylists and salon owners from all over the world.
