This weekend at Premiere Philadelphia, SalonCentric awarded the first-ever FuturePro Award to Kaylin Jackewicz (@kayjackhair) for her avant-garde work, Briar Bliss. Jackewicz, who attends Summit Salon Academy in Tampa, Fla., pulled inspiration from her love of animals, flowers and The Brothers Grimm fairytale, Sleeping Beauty.

“I loved the idea of horns and a flower field so the animal I channeled was a ram in a flower field and then, in the middle of this, another vision came about, Sleeping Beauty,” Jackewicz said. “Winning this award is astounding – I never thought I could actually excel in something like avant-garde and I feel like this may shape my career in the future.”

SalonCentric’s FuturePro awards searched for unique, experimental and revolutionary hairstyles that push the envelope and go beyond traditional techniques and styles. Current cosmetology students were encouraged to put their skills, creativity and innovative ideas on display on SalonCentric’s social media channels.

As the 2018 FuturePro winner, Jackewicz won a trip to Philadelphia Premiere for her and a guest; received SalonCentric mainstage recognition by SalonCentric Ambassador Daniel Mason Jones; had her winning image recreated on a larger-than-life graffiti mural by St. Petersburg, Fla. muralists, The Vitale Bros.; and was a special guest at Tabatha Coffey’s Elevate the Salon Experience.

In this short video, Jackewicz meets with MODERN's Maggie Mulhern, and chats about the image and what this "win" means to her.
