How many times have you accidentally cut your knuckles, index finger or middle finger from cutting your client’s hair? Once or twice? Several times a week? Whether it’s not often or too much, now you never have to worry about doing it ever again.
Lucille Pew, stylist at West End Salon in Boulder, Colorado, has invented a trusty ring just for hairdressers that “shields” fingers from cuts (from using shears)—it’s called the LUCi Ring. “One day I was in my living room cutting my dad’s hair. My niece was playing Wii and my mom was trying to do something in my kitchen. Needless to say, I was a bit distracted and a little rushed, so the inevitable happened, I cut my finger 4 times!”
Pew finally said out loud, “Oh my goodness, I need a shield!” And that’s when the light bulb went on. The next day she went to her aunt’s house (who is also a custom jewelry maker) and worked on creating a custom ring that would cover her finger from the top knuckle to the bottom knuckle.
“The ring needed to protect my finger, while maintaining flexibility in my fingers,” she says. “I stressed to my aunt, that I must have a soft metal, so it didn’t dull my shears (think sterling silver) or change the colors of my skin from being in water and chemicals. And most certainly, the ring needed to be beautiful, stylish, and proud to wear!”
Today, Pew sells these rings to stylists everywhere. “As a NIOXIN Expert training to be a Portfolio Brand Artist, I am blessed with the opportunity to work side-by-side with the Wella family; the most influential hair stylists of my career. Wella found out about LUCi Ring and decided to ‘gift’ a LUCi Ring for its entire top 100 Global Artists!”
