Formerly known as Miss Colombia, Paulina Vega was crowned the new Miss Universe, beating out first-runner up Miss USA Nia Sanchez and contestants from more than 80 other countries. Vega inherits the throne from Gabriela Isler of Venezuela. Although this crown is all her own, the new $300,000 headpiece is modeled after the Manhattan skyline where Vega will spend the year of her reign. The other finalists chosen among the contestants were fourth runner-up Miss Jamaica Kaci Fennell (who stood out for her short spiky haircut), second runner-up Miss Ukraine Diana Harkusha and third runner-up Miss Netherlands Yasmin Verheijen.
Miss Puerto Rico Named CHI's new Spokesmodel
Vega wasn't the only contestant to win big last night. Miss Nigeria took home Miss Congentiality and Miss Indonesia won best National Costume. Miss Photogenic judged by Farouk Systems was awarded to Miss Puerto Rico Gabriela Berrios. Berrios will serve as the official spokesmodel for the Miss Universe styling range.
