Shear Appreciation is a new program designed to make it easy for salons and spas to band together to help any of the almost 70,000 thousand soldiers who are part of the Wounded Warrior Project. That number of warriors looking for help, both mental and physical, grows everyday.
Spearheaded by Scott Bowers, CEO of Paul Brown Hawaii, Shear Appreciation is set up to make donations from the professional beauty world easy and seamless. "It's the bridge for the professional beauty industry to raise money and awareness for the servicemen and women who were injured while protecting our country," says Bowers. "Here in Florida, Kate Thomassen and her sales team led the Shear Appreciation campaign with unwavering determination to support WWP."

21 salons in Florida participated in the inaugural Shear Appreciation event. Bowers shares the example of Cabelo Salon stylist Jessie Henderson who won $100 for the most creative Paul Brown Hawaii booth. Henderson immediately handed over the check as a donation. "It was truly an honor to be a part of this charity," says Henderson. "Thank you Wounded Warrior, for all that you do for our vets." Salon Fusion where Carol Stevenson gathered all of her Saturday tips for months before donating to the WWP.
For 2016, Shear Appreciation is looking to partner with a national firm to expand this campaign and make it available nationwide. (Volunteers are and will be greatly appreciated.)
Want to get on board? Bowers, along with WWP's Courtney Davidson, give us some of the backstory and share how to get your salon or spa involved in this video overview:
