Studio 5 Models, a modeling academy in northern and central New Jersey, held its first fashion show recently and invited new hair stylist Michael Lynn to create fresh looks on the nine graduating models. "It all seemed kind of perfect," says Lynn currently working out of  Robert's Salon of Beauty in Boston. "They are new models and I am a new stylist.  They are teenagers and I'm not too far out of the teen world. Each model had four changes so I knew I would have to create simple designs that could be easily refreshed between looks."

The models ranged in age from 10 to 17 and the fashions ranged from casual to the grand finale "bridesmaid" dress. "We were lucky that we had so much time to prepare," says Lynn. "I've heard horror stories about models walking in 5 minutes before the show. These girls were totally prepped and professional."

Also great was the amount of space Lynn had for set up. "I've been backstage during fashion week. It's amazing how cramped and uncomfortable it can be. I could totally appreciate how much room I had."

The only snag in the show for Lynn was that his team of three additional stylists cancelled at the last minute. "Yeah, that was bad," he says. "But it all worked out. One of the models invited her hairdresser to come to the fashion show. He showed up with all his equipment and ended up doing hair with me! He was amazing. His name is Paul Ferraro and I can't say enough wonderful things about him."

One of the highlights for Lynn was getting to prep Studio 5 Models signature puppy in the finale. "That was pretty funny," says Lynn. "Fortunately I'm a real dog person."

The Studio 5 Models show was a real learning experience for Lynn. "Next time I will nail down my team and come prepared for anything…even a canine model."
