Spring has finally sprung and it’s time for a change! From spring cleaning to closet updates, why not focus some of that energy into our hair? A little color and “tekstur” can go a long way in refreshing your clients’ image! Here are three great ways to jumpstart the conversation.
COLOR CRAZE

The winter white-wash is over - let color be our guide for the spring!
Miss Reserved
We all have clients who are a little apprehensive about trying something new, but who doesn’t love shiny, brilliant hair? Try suggesting a demi color such as L’oréal ‘s Richesse to enhance her natural hues and amplify shine or encourage her to flirt with vivid colors elsewhere. It’s much less dramatic to get a vibrant mani or pedi and may warm her up to subtle hue enhancements in her hair.

Get your client on trend by suggesting signature pieces to enhance her features instead of a full foil. To go one step further, I often name my color trends to create buzz and use the color melting technique, which is an alternative approach to ombre and has a more sunkissed feel. This can also be toned down for a more salon-friendly approach.

Pastel hues are the rave for spring and can be elegant if done right. This client has done it all, so help her quench her thirst for change with softer and lighter icy hues. For color without the commitment, try L’oréal Professionnel’s new hair chalk. The washout hair chalk is like makeup for hair: switch it up as often as you like no commitment and get maximum color intensity without pre-lightening hair.
TEXTURE TEASE
Braids, surfy waves and frothy curls are all the rage this season, dominating the runways and editorial spreads.

Assess her natural texture and suggest alternative ways to style her hair, which could be as simple as changing the side or angle of her part.
Miss Hipster
Braids, buns and accessories and all things retro can inspire your trend-seeking client. Empower her by scheduling a session to teach them how to master a fishtail or a topknot.
Miss Adventure
Explore products to give her maximum versatility. One of my faves, Oribe's Dry Thick spray, and Surfcomber Mousse will start a texture revolution in any head of hair!

GIVING FACE
While pastels are taking over hair, neon hues are making their mark on lips this season. Mix in bold, natural brows and naked skin, and your client will give great face all season long. If this is your client’s go-to look, here are everyday hair tips.

Headbands with a low bun and a slight pompadour display a chic and effortless style.

Pixie cuts are always a hot number for the girl who is bold enough to bare it all.
Remember, there is nothing sexier than our own individuality. Trends are simply guidelines, not a roadmap, to the success of your client’s imaging. My own personal mantra for 2014: “Hair is a fabric not a race. Every color, cut, or style must be tailor-made.”
